Killwangen-Spreitenbach station

Just west of Killwangen-Spreitenbach station, SBB's main lines from Aarau and from Baden merge.

Click here for an animated schematic of train operations between Killwangen and Dietikon, including the new tracks, crossovers and flyover.

As the animination shows, east of Killwangen:

  • Suburban (S-Bahn) trains between Brugg and Zurich use the inner two tracks (they stop at Killwangen).

  • Express trains between Aarau and Zurich take the outer two tracks.

  • Express trains between Baden und Zurich use the new high-speed crossovers.
Click here for a map of the line between Killwangen and Zurich.

What follows are some views of traffic through Killwangen-Spreitenbach station on March 8, 2001. All of the train shots are looking east from the Killwangen platform.

(You can click on most of the following images to get bigger versions and more details.)

Even Killwangen-Spreitenbach has its quiet moments, when the photographer's eye wanders to details such as a crossing for baggage carts, with its small signal to warn of approaching trains:

Crossing for baggage carts

And finally, the wait is rewarded: switch machines whirr (at a safe distance) and moments later two locomotives, running light, traverse the high-speed crossover from the outbound express track to the line just to my left, which leads toward Baden and Basel:

About to cross over to track just to my left
